Production Design lesson- 17/10/2013

Today I had my first proper Production design lesson with Julie Horan. She gave me some really helpful hints and tips for sourcing props and such. Here are my notes on the lesson.

Useful places to get props from:

  • Freecycle
  • Preloved
  • Gumtree
  • Charity shops- St luke's- Crookes
  • Oxfam- Broomhill
  • Emmaus- St Pelier works- Victoria Quays
Another tactic to use is seeing whether you can hire for a period for the full price and then return and get reimbursed.

Tips and Pointers:
  • What is the story about?
  • Stand your ground creatively.
  • Visual trilogy- Director, Cinematography, Art Director.
  • Research is important- in a film, look behind the actors.
  • Bright white never looks good on film ( TV white, greyish beige is best)
  • Wetting down- making the effect of it raining.
