Above is the experimental and abstract film Solipsist written and directed by Andrew Huang. The production designer for this film is Hugh Zeigler.
A little background knowledge on Huang... He's a filmaker and artist from Los Angeles and graduated with a degree in Fine Art and Animation from the University of Southern California.
Hugh did the production design for the film Solipsist, building all the puppets and figuring all the technical problem solving with the sand and the fishtank. I really enjoyed this short film because I love how the different aspects grew as time went on. I especially like the opening act of the film how the scarf-like creation grows with the movement. Everything that's on the scarf seems to be extremely random but I love the mesh of colours it has within it and how it grows and develops through the film and it leads nicely onto the jellyfish scene. It's such an interesting abstract piece. it's essentially such a basic set, all of the focus and vibrancy is on the characters.
Even more interesting to watch for me was 'The Making of Solipsist', which is shown just above. It's extremely interesting to see how they actually animated the scarf and the jelly fish and how they were lit up. You also can see the animation of of how the colourful branches engulf the faces. It's brilliant to see the mix of physical art and digital art being used throughout the piece. It's enlightening to see how something so simple can be made into an extremely eloquent piece of film art.
